Why this matters
Mobile clinics serving immigrant children can double as a site for prevalence research that shapes screening guidance. Among 206 pediatric patients, 97.6 percent of whom were born outside the United States, four (1.9 percent) tested positive for Strongyloides.
Abstract
Experts recommend screening for strongyloidiasis in foreign-born immigrant children. We described Strongyloides seropositivity among 206 pediatric patients on a mobile clinic; 97.6% were born outside the US; 97.1% were Hispanic. Four (1.9%) had positive ELISA results. Mobile clinics can feasibly conduct strongyloidiasis prevalence studies to create guidelines for providers who see foreign-born immigrant children.
