Pharmacist-driven mobile health clinics: a qualitative analysis of logistics for program development, implementation, and operation.

Pharmacists run mobile clinics more often than the literature reflects, and their operating model differs. Interviews with 16 people across 10 pharmacist-driven programs described a small staff supported by a large volunteer base and a consistent three-step clinical workflow.
Abstract
Access to healthcare remains a major issue in the US, particularly in rural communities. This project explored characteristics of existing pharmacist-driven MHCs through semi-structured interviews with 16 participants from 10 programs. Six subthemes were identified related to program logistics: programs exist to increase access to care; programs have an awareness of scope/role; programs identify and meet community needs; programs meet patients' needs; programs have a small staff with large volunteer-base; and programs have a three-step clinical workflow.
