Ballad Health’s Community Mobile Health Unit
This mobile unit brings general medical and women’s health services into rural communities.
Ballad Health launched a community mobile health unit to expand access to general medical care and women’s health services across the Appalachian Highlands. Dr. Paula Masters, then vice president of health programs, explains how a nurse practitioner, community health navigator, and registered nurse staff the mobile unit.

Today, leaders with the region’s largest health system announced a new community mobile health clinic aimed at expanding rural healthcare access across our region. Ballad Health says the new unit will operate under two functions: general medical care and women’s health services. The clinic will also treat patients with or without insurance.
We have an entire community health clinical resources team that will help to really person this unit. So we have a nurse practitioner, we have a community health navigator. We’ll also be bringing on a registered nurse to really build out what services we can provide.
Ballad says the services the mobile clinic provides were made possible through community grants.
