Abstract

This 3-year retrospective study examined a hospital-based mobile blood donation program using GIS software. 16,009 whole blood donations were identified from 455 mobile blood drives at 189 unique locations. 17 towns within 15-mile radius had never been visited by the bloodmobile, and untapped opportunities were identified in 33 towns with nearby healthcare facilities. GIS-generated maps serve as an effective tool to identify optimal locations for future mobile blood drives.
