Abstract

Qualitative study of 12 rural midwives in New Zealand explored their perspectives on caring for women who use substances during pregnancy and postpartum. Three main themes emerged: navigating complex situations, barriers to care, and building trusting relationships. Mobile midwifery services were identified as valuable in reducing access barriers for this population. Participants highlighted the need for trauma-informed training and multi-agency collaboration.
