Geospatial Analysis to Determine Optimal Distribution of Mobile Stroke Units.

Abstract
We geo-coded Texas stroke centers and mapped drive time buffers to determine optimal MSU distribution. A 180-minute buffer resulted in 741,852 patients potentially receiving thrombolysis within 3 hours, representing 99.1% of adult patients with stroke in the state - a 279% increase in patients from rural areas compared with standard EMS. When distributed using geospatial analysis, MSUs can provide faster treatment to virtually the entire state.
